In less than one year you can begin a lifetime of profitable and personally rewarding massage therapy.

Massage school occurs in two parts.

Part One is 150 hours.  50 hours are academic study of Anatomy, Physiology, and Structural Kinesiology.  100 hours are hands on massage technique training.

Part Two is an apprenticeship in which you perform supervised training massages on paying clients, as well as perform most aspects of massage office management.  Including scheduling, laundry, and office sanitation.

In this part the concept of detailed attention to detail will be reinforced so that graduates will attain a spa-like awareness of high class service.

Apprentices do not receive pay for massages during apprenticeship, but tips are normal.
Our location is close to many Outrigger Hotels, the Hilton Hawaiian Village, the Hyatt Regency, many Resort Quest Hotels, and the Sheraton Waikiki is just a short walk away.  Our central location within so many hotels will bring many tourists, so our apprentices will have ample opportunity to fine tune their skills with a discerning clientele.

Massage Therapy is about understanding how to help a person to relax by relieving muscle tension.   This requires a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology, structural kinesiology, and how to touch.
The academic part is the easy part.  How to touch is the interesting part.  Therein lies the art of massage.
What makes touch relaxing?
Timing?
Pressure?
Placement?
Whether you are pushing with only your arm, or whether you are supporting your hands with your whole body?
Answering these questions develops your own self awareness, and sets you on the path to superior massage.

A career you can enjoy.

Instruction is provided by Dennis and Chia-Hui Miller, owner s of the Shiatsu & Massage Center, Inc., for eight years.  Dennis graduated from the American Institute of Massage Therapy in 1997, and from UH Manoa with a BA in Dance in 2000.  His massage style combines a dance training background with yoga, meditation, and physical awareness.
Chia-Hui graduated from the Aloha Academy of Massage in 2003, and from HPU with a TIM degree in 2001.  She combines the best of detailed shiatsu with soothing relaxation.  She speaks Chinese and Japanese and English.

However, in addition to good massage technique, it is also necessary to be safe, and to understand how to understand your client.  Then, by creating a purposeful atmosphere, paying careful attention to each unique client, and providing a holistic, body challenging yet always soft and nurturing massage, the student will be on their way to creating a satisfying career in massage therapy.
